Building a Brand with Chat GPT, Midjourney, Dalle-3, and Figma
I spent about eight hours over the three day weekend trying to follow a brief from ChatGPT and produce some design assets with mostly AI tools. Calling it a ‘Brand’ is a bit of a stretch, but I did produce a pretty good rough draft or v1 product and I earned some valuable lessons. You can read the entire case study in my Medium post.
I Built my Own GPT: UX Mentor!
You might not have been following OpenAI’s developer day last week as closely as I was, but I was really excited to try this. The shocking part? This only took 10 minutes and required no coding skills. If you have a ChatGPT+ account, you can click on the explore tab and then ‘Create a GPT’.
Through a simple interface I uploaded a few .pdfs and typed some basic instructions with the simple goal of creating a useful tool for my current students. I have no idea of how useful or reliable it is, but I’d love it if you could put it through some user testing for me. Send me a message if anything seems out of place. Check it out
Curious about what over people are doing with custom GPTs. Check it out
5 Designers Talk About the Influence/Impact of AI
Remember when you were a teenager and everyone was daring everyone else to go first? Jump off the ledge into the lake, or whatever? That’s kinda what it feels like looking at AI tools right now…like why give up what I’ve worked so hard to achieve?
Lot’s of designers are on the fence, and these 5 open up about what their real-life choices are. Check it out
Best Long Read of the Week
Just like half a dozen articles I’ve read this week, Jay Acutt is quoting Jakob Nielsen, just like I did. Nielsen’s Second Law of AI: You won’t lose your job to AI, but to someone who uses AI better than you do.” (Jakob Nielsen, Substack 18th September 2023.). However he’s pretty optimistic about the future for designers and he’s coined the term ‘Extended Designer’ and explains that there will always be a need for designers, but the role is moving from ‘maker’ to ‘governor’. So grab a cold beer, set aside a half an hour and check it out.
Closing Thoughts
Sorry, I only have five links for you today. I worked really hard on a bunch of creative and academic projects this weekend. However, since the AI news never sleeps, I’m sure I’ll have a full report by Wednesday.
