OOPS!
So I didn’t realize that you needed a GPT+ or enterprise account to view my custom GPT, so if I sent you on a wild goose chase on my Monday to view my UX Mentor, I apologize. I think that OpenAI is making a huge mistake here and $20 a month is a significant barrier to entry for a lot of people. This is neither inclusive, accessible, nor in the original spirit of the web. There should be a free plan for educators.</rant>.
And even though I said last week that I was going to stop paying for this because Dalle-3 was not that great, I’m now hooked on making custom GPTs so I’ll keep forking over my cash…for now.
Building Your Own GPT
If you’re already paying for a Plus account, I really recommend you try building one, even if it’s just for your hobby ore special interest. Better yet, pour in some data related to your work and impress your boss. This article from Zapier will have you up to speed in no time.
GPT Tracker. From Someone Way More Dedicated Than Me
I found a Reddit post from someone who said they’ve reviewed over 1000 custom GPT’s (in the last week). And, of course, they built a website that tracks and rates them all. Do me a favor, search for ‘UX’ and upvote UX Mentor so I can bump UX Sage out of the top slot.
Free AI Training from Amazon
Every few months, I post a link to some sort of free AI training with the goal of actually taking the class so I can report on it in greater detail. However, that usually falls onto the back burner and I rarely follow through. But David Gewirtz took Amazon’s free AI class and has an excellent write up about. While most of this is aimed at developers or people with an AWS account, there is an introductory section targeted towards ‘managers, decision-makers, and the AI-curious.’ Check it out

Andreessen Horowitz backs Civitai
I haven’t written about Stable Diffusion in a few months because I considered it second rate after all the Midjourney+Firefly+Dalle-3 excitement. However, I had overlooked just how big the SDXL crowd is and how important an ‘Open Source’ ecosystem can be. This article from Tech Crunch talks about how rapidly CivitAI has grown and why Andreessen Horowitz thinks it’s a great investment.
Please Take My Survey!
I’m continuing my research about how the rise of Generative AI will effect the Graphic Design industry so that I can better advise and prepare my students.
That’s it for this week, I hope you’re learning a lot out there. Remember, sharing is caring, and your friends will really appreciate you when they get up to your level and start reading this newsletter too!
