I was feeling really stuck in the waning days of the pre-Sora era. How can I become an AI filmmaker while current tool set (RunwayML, Pika Labs) is so clunky and out of date? As with most generative tools, wait a week, and the whole paradigm will change. Pika Labs made a huge leap in progress yesterday by adding the ability to include voiceover to your generated video and it looks really good! You can do this by adding a text prompt or a audio file, but I’ll have to wait a while to test it out because it’s only available on their (expensive) pro plan. Check it out
Stable Diffusion Three is Amazing!
Or at least that’s what the YouTubers with advanced knowledge are saying, that it can produce Midjourney level images and superior text rendering. However, I’m still on the waiting list and will give you a full report when I get access. If you’re interested, you can sign up here
Required Reading for UX Designers
As you know, I skim a lot of newsletters every morning and about once a month, I’ll see an article referenced over and over. If you’re a UX designer and you’re trying to figure out were to land in this whole upheaval, you should read this article by Alex Klein. Quite simply, this is the best career advice I’ve encountered in the eight months of writing this newsletter. I’ll be making it required reading for my students. He points to a lot of resources that I’ve also covered and has an extensive reading list at the end.
Always Great Advice from Brad Frost
I’ve been referencing Brad Frost’s work and making it required reading for over a decade. So if he has an article about how to implement AI into your work with Design Systems, you should really check it out. Some of this is dry and boring, but will be really useful if you’re working in these areas:
Writing component code
Translating components across frameworks
Writing unit tests
Reviewing accessibility
Writing documentation
Making documentation more accessible/inclusive
That’s it for today! Hope you’re having a fantastic week and learning a lot. If you have any questions, suggestions, or hot tips, send me a message.
