Photoshop Generative Fill
I hope you had a great Memorial day weekend. I watched about a dozen YouTube videos on Photoshop’s new feature, Generative Fill. Every single one had a headline like “Game Changer” and “Photo Editing Will Never Be The Same”. If you use Photoshop on a regular basis, you need to download the Beta and start using this feature today. If you would like a deeper understanding of what Adobe is doing with Firefly and Generative fill, read this article first.
Tool of the Week: Recast
I’ve got way too much to read every week, bur Recast has created a handy Chrome plugin that saves the article and then converts and condenses it into a podcast-like audio summary that I can listen to when I have a little spare time, like when I’m cleaning the kitchen. It also has an iOS app, so you can listen while you’re on the go. I’ve included a link to the audio file in a couple of this week’s article. Let me know if you found it useful.
Ethical Considerations: Adobe
Are you struggling to form definitions for terms like ‘Machine Learning” and “Generative Tools”? And are you still working on a point of view for things like artists rights, cultural biases, and copyright rules? AL/ML: The good, the bad, and the buzz by by Brooke Hopper, Principal Designer, Machine Intelligence & New Technologies at Adobe really helped expand my vocabulary and understanding of these issues.
Inspiration of the Week: Lumen.io
Of course it’s easier to use AI tools to build a game when you’re already an established educational game studio, but I was really inspired by the post-mortem of how they used Chat GPT, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion to do it. Check it out, the visuals are stunning!
Company of the Week: Humane
Humane is a team of former Apple executives and engineers that are building an AI powered, screen-less personal assistant, an invisible interface. You can watch their TedTalk, below, or look at their guiding principles for designing with AI.
We firmly believe that technology should be crafted to serve people, not the other way around. Humane is an experience company that uses technology for good, and not a technology company that finds good reasons to experience technology. There’s a difference, and that difference means putting people first — by design.
Firefly, Midjourney, or Stable Diffusion?
Are you brand new to image generating tools and don’t know where to begin? I explain the differences in three major platforms in this 10 minute video, check it out.
Or if you’d prefer to read an article comparing just Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, I found this to be really helpful.
I hope you’re getting some value out of this newsletter. Please share it with your friends! If you have any questions or requests, please reach out. I’d love to chat!
